Colour!

Well, i did something with a vague direction today, woah, go me!

Typically, in true 'location drawing' style, the morning i plan to take photos outside is the day its grey and drizzly! Despite this it really was pretty impressive how much colour there actually is in a seemingly grey/brown winter garden if you just look close enough. Of course having a turquoise shed and fence helps as well!

Attempting to whip up some colour wraps now to translate my new found colour! It was great fun getting out my vast collection of threads and chopping up strips of mounting board :). Here are some rough examples, i didn't want to spend too long on these but it was important to get the colour right.

The photos of these aren't very good as the light was fading and my scanner got confused. But you get the idea!

Hmm, i think tomorrow will be time to look out the leather again... :)

What a great day it has been and so...well, relevant to what im supposed to be doing!

After a last minute scuffle, i went along to a Style & Trends presentation today in Inverness. Provided free of charge by the HIE we got a colour trend workshop for Spring/Summer 2012. Then in the afternoon we got to rake through a big pile of threads, fabric, paper, stuff to create some mood boards. It was playtime!

It was so good to be among creative textile people again. It was the kind of thing i did at art school and took for granted, even the latest fashion trends and colours i had been completely out of touch from them, it was nice for my brain to click back into that way of thinking, seeing and translating.

I was a bit apprehensive about going as 'my work' has progressed zilch since graduating and trying to network with no solid background doesn't really give me much confidence but there were other people there who felt similar and also were there for a well needed kick start.

Here is one of my quick mood boards, its not exactly top notch reference but i had fun doing it, just getting covered in glue and thread AND not having to tidy up the mess afterwards was a bonus!

Ok, so i am officially the worst blogger in the world, i even set a blog up for work, how many posts do i have...one. I was one of those kids that always tried to write a diary but loved the cover so much it was an effort to make a mark inside it. Actually im still like that with sketchbooks, there is a big pile of blank ones on a shelf and mounds of scrappy bits of doodled paper kicking about my floor...big spiders hide under them *shudders*

But i have been doing stuff, i honestly have, mainly gifts for friends and family, wedding stuff, wee things to sell in the shop...safe stuff. I need to get out of the safe zone, i have been in it for too long and the world is passing me by. I dont want to work in a shop all my life, i dont want to be living out a middle aged woman's dream in the Highlands knitting by the fire, baking cakes, attending to the ruddy herb garden. I want to design, create, exhibit, sell and be 23!

It's all a bit scary, but spring is almost sprung lets hope i can make a fresh start...
